The Mesa City Council approved a dollar increase for a contract for radio equipment and parts for the Mesa Police Department at their recent meeting.
The vote passed 7-0 as part of a multi-item consent agenda. The vote increased the State of Arizona and Maricopa County cooperative contracts with Motorola Solutions, Inc., and Durham Communications, Inc., and JVCKenwood USA Corporation by $9,040,000, from $3,010,000 to $12,050,000 annually.
Although the contract will be primarily used for Mesa PD, other city departments will also be able to take advantage of the contract’s dollar increase. This includes the Mesa Fire Department and Department of Innovation and Technology.
“DoIT purchases Motorola and Kenwood equipment for repairs and services for various City Departments as needed. Mesa Fire and Medical (MFMD) and the Police Department purchase radio equipment for their new emergency response vehicles, and for additional equipment, repairs, and services as needed,” the council report stated. “...This increase will additionally provide flexibility to purchase additional radios, components, and related services as needed.”
The contract is funded by Mesa PD via the Public Safety Sales Tax Fund, General Fund, Fleet Services budgeted Funds, Lifecycle Funds, and others, as well as the Mesa Fire and Medical budget and the Department of Innovation and Technology.
