Mesa Unified School District is the largest public school district in Arizona and has six high schools, nine junior high schools, 55 elementary schools and 18 choice and success schools.
The Mesa Unified School District earned an overall “B” grade for the 2024-25 school year in the latest A-F letter grade report from the Arizona Department of Education’s state accountability labels released Oct. 29.
That is the same overall grade as the district received last year.
A press release from MPS notes that 61 schools earned “A” or “B” grades this year, as opposed to the 51 in the previous year. The press release can be viewed at www.mpsaz.org/article/2515932.
The system measures year to year student academic growth, proficiency on English language arts, math and science, the proficiency and academic growth of English language learners, indicators that an elementary student is ready for success in high school and that high school students are ready to succeed in a career or higher education and high school graduation rates, according to the website of the Arizona State Board of Education.
MPS also saw an increased district GPA overall. 20 schools improved by at least one letter grade while 40 schools maintained their previous year’s grade. A total of 33 K-8 schools in the district also earned points for decreasing chronic absenteeism, and all seven high schools increased their College and Career Readiness Indicator points.
“Mesa Public Schools will continue to build on this success by focusing on academic achievement, student support and community engagement. With a strong foundation of excellence, the district remains committed to providing the best possible education for every student,” the press release stated.
