Registration has begun for eight- to 12-week karate, cheerleading and soccer ActivStars after-school youth recreation programs. They start in September and October for children ages 4-17.
Enhanced COVID-19 safety procedures will be in use at all locations. All classes are to be held outdoors to ensure safety and distancing. Also, there will be touch-free instruction and contactless weekly payments, according to a flyer.
Classes start at $9 a week. Register at Activstars.com for the following classes:
Martial arts and karate, with blocking, kicking, striking, self-defense, safety awareness, anti-bullying and advancement to black belt. Tournaments are pending. Classes are Thursdays Sept. 17-Nov. 5 at Flatiron Park, 100 N. Apache Trail in Apache Junction. Class is 5:30-6:15 p.m. for beginners, 6:15-7 p.m. for yellow and green belts, and 6:15-7:45 p.m. for blue belts and above. Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in.
Cheerleading, with cheers, chants, jumps, stunts, pom dance routines and fun team building. Clinics, showcase and competitions are pending. Classes are Mondays Sept. 14-Nov. 2 at Flatiron Park, 100 N. Apache Trail in Apache Junction. Classes are 6:30-7:15 p.m. for JV (ages 4-6) and varsity (7-9); and 7:30-8:30 p.m. for junior all stars (ages 10 and over) and pro (tryout team). Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in.
Soccer, with dribbling, shooting and scoring in beginner through advanced skills. Fun lessons, games and tournaments pending. Classes are held at two Mesa sites: at Enid Park, 5319 E. Enid Ave., Saturdays Oct. 3-Dec. 12; and at Augusta Ranch Elementary School’s soccer field, 9430 E. Neville Ave., Sept. 19-Dec. 12, with the weekly soccer practice times assigned for the semester during the first practice say. On the first day (Oct. 3 for Enid Park and Sept. 19 for Augusta Ranch Elementary School), check-in is 9 a.m. for ages 5-6 with first practice 9:30-10:20 a.m., check-in is 10:45 a.m. for ages 7-8 with first practice 11:15 a.m.-12:05 p.m., and check-in is 12:30 p.m. for ages 9-15 with first practice 1-1:50 p.m.
