Several hundred area adults attended a recent Mesa Senior Expo hosted by Independent Newsmedia that showcased more than 40 businesses as vendors and sponsors.
The inaugural Mesa Senior Expo held the morning of Nov. 15 at East Mesa Christian Church, 706 S. Greenfield Road in Mesa, included free health screenings, resource booths, merchandise giveaways, products for sale and demonstrations.
A senior expo is a great place to see many businesses at once, Mesa resident Dianne Lewis said.
“It’s good seeing all of the booths at one place and being able to get that information out there. It’s nice to be able to come to one location,” she said.
Lewis said she learned about the senior expo through an advertisement in the Mesa Independent.
She attended, “just to see what’s available out there. There’s a couple things that look interesting. I’m not on Medicare yet, but (for the) hard of hearing, I saw that phone; seeing about the different places that are available in Mesa,” she said.
Mesa resident Beth Atkins came to the expo with a friend to learn about resources for seniors.
“My friend, Teri, invited me and we saw it in the paper,” Atkins said.
“I saw the ad in the paper and decided I’d check it out. I just want to see what it is all about,” Mesa resident Teri Nowicki said.
“You don’t know what you don’t know,” Atkins said.
Mesa resident Sharon Gill has attended other senior expos and wanted to see what was available, she said.
“It was very interesting. They were trying to tell you the newest things with Medicare, there was some financial stuff, some pro-health stuff — so I was impressed,” Gill said as she left the expo.
Gina Van Luven, owner of Prime IV Hydration and Wellness, 2025 N. Power Road Suite No. 106 in Mesa, had a table at the senior expo to seek clients.
“I want to get our name out in the community, let them know how we can help them be healthier,” she said. “We do have some product but it is IV therapy services ... Really focusing on immune-support right now, going into cold and flu season.”
Rick Ried, independent agent with Presley General Insurance Agency Inc., said he set up a table to generate leads “and find people who need help and get connected with them. I found people to talk to and a couple people need my help, so it’s good,” he said.
“I am a Medicare insurance broker. I represent all of the different Medicare insurance providers,” Ried said. “My primary responsibility is to educate them on Medicare so that they can more effectively choose a program that is right for them.”
Chris Hudson of Woodfield, which offers RVs and park model homes in Show Low, had a table at the Mesa Senior Expo and was at the Sun City West Senior Expo, also hosted by Independent Newsmedia.
“Doing a couple expos — including in Sun City West — to get in front of people and let people know what we offer,” he said.
Brochures were available at the table staffed by John Haines, factory representative for Steel Shield Security Doors, which also has a display at Mesa Marketplace, 10550 E. Baseline Road in Mesa.
“It’s a product we sell — doors and gates,” Haines said. “It’s where I get some of my leads,” he said of Mesa Marketplace.
