Campo Verde High School senior Sofie Theurer earned a perfect composite score of 36 on the ACT, placing her among the top 0.21% of test-takers nationwide, according to the most recent ACT Profile Report.
Of the more than 1.3 million students who took the college entrance exam, only 2,958 achieved the highest possible score.
Theurer was also named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist, an honor recognizing the top 1% of students who took the Preliminary SAT.
She credited her performance to consistent preparation and said her coursework at Campo Verde helped her develop the critical thinking and time management skills needed for the exam.
“I think sometimes people assume it’s all about being naturally smart, but honestly, most of it is being consistent and putting in effort,” Theurer said. “It really comes down to being dedicated to the process, and I believe anyone who tries hard enough can succeed in anything they do.”
Theurer recommended students preparing for the SAT or ACT taking practice tests to become familiar with the format and improve pacing. She also emphasized the importance of reading regularly to build comprehension skills.
“Sofie’s excellence in the ACT and PSAT is a testament to her incredible dedication and commitment to learning,” Principal Tyler Dumas said in a release. “She truly embodies the spirit of Campo Verde High, which is rooted in our core focus of ‘Every Person, Every Day.’ We are immensely proud of Sofie for demonstrating the commitment to excellence that we champion in all our students.”
Theurer is preparing college applications and plans to pursue studies in finance or accounting.
