A Brakes Plus vehicle service facility is to be constructed about 500 feet north of the northwest corner of South Ellsworth Road and East Elliott Road in Mesa.
The development’s look and landscaping were discussed by the Mesa Design Review Board during an April 14 meeting. Boardmembers David Winstanley and Megan Neal were absent.
A 4,897-square-foot building is planned with bay doors facing south, Staff Planner Emily Johnson said during the meeting.
“The primary access is an internal drive connecting north-south that goes out to Ellsworth Road as well as Peterson Avenue. Fourteen parking spaces are required, and 17 are provided,” she said.
Brakes Plus strives to have customers in and out of the facility within a two-hour window. Hours of operation are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, closed on Sunday, according to a written project narrative.
“We acknowledge that sound attenuation will be reviewed during permitting. For this proposed project, all sound equipment is placed inside the store and should not negatively impact the surrounding area,” it states. “Vehicles are not typically kept overnight for repairs; the facility does not service major repairs, only minor automotive work... In the case that a vehicle needs to be kept in, Brakes Plus always stores vehicles inside the bays, locked and secured, with cameras monitoring.”
The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
