Audio messages sought to cheer on Mesa resident turning 104 in July

Alice Abington, a resident at Pegasus Landing of Mesa, turns 104 on July 23 and short audio messages are being sought to wish her a happy birthday,

“She is sight-challenged, so the radio is her window to the world — the news, the Diamondbacks, the Suns, all of it. To celebrate, we are throwing her a live mock radio show right here at the community, complete with a real mic, headphones and a front-row seat for Alice,” according to a release.

“We are collecting short audio messages from anyone who wants to wish her a happy birthday — school kids, banking colleagues (Alice built her career in Arizona banking), Diamondbacks and Suns fans, ice cream makers (butter pecan is her favorite), and anyone who just wants to make a 104-year-old woman smile. The most creative message wins a half-gallon of butter pecan ice cream,” the release states.

“We wanted this to feel like Alice’s own radio show, because that’s her world,” Teresa Hadley, life enrichment director at Pegasus Landing of Mesa, said in the release. “The goal isn’t a hundred people saying ‘Happy Birthday, Alice.’ We want her to hear something that surprises her, makes her laugh, maybe even brings (happy) tears. That’s a 104th birthday.”

Audio messages are due by July 9. A webpage with information on how to submit an audio message is at: https://www.pegasusseniorliving.com/pegasus-landing-of-mesa/104th-birthday.

The party is 2 p.m. July 23 at Pegasus Landing of Mesa, 7231 E. Broadway Road in Mesa.
