Arizona’s leaders must prioritize GLP-1 safety

Mesa resident concerned by story of man who needed emergency transplant after taking knockoff weight loss medication

Posted

OPINION — I saw a recent national story about a man who took a compounded, knockoff GLP-1 medication and thanks to its unknown added ingredients, resulted in severe health problems and an emergency liver transplant.

It’s terribly unfortunate, but not surprising. We’ve seen more and more warnings that this could happen, thanks to the limited oversight these compounded medications have had

It’s time for federal law enforcement to start banning these compounded GLP-1’s. It’s also time for Arizona’s leaders to start enacting or enforcing laws on these entities.

It’s alarming how unsafe this market is becoming.
