Annexations totaling 338 acres topics of public hearings before Mesa City Council

Posted

Two proposed annexations totaling 338 acres on Ellsworth Road are topics of public hearings before the Mesa City Council on Jan. 11.

The hearings are required prior to the release of petitions for signatures for the proposed annexations.

Following each public hearing, an annexation petition will be released for property owner signatures. Once the signatures have been received, an annexation ordinance will be scheduled for the council’s consideration and adoption, according to a memo to the council from Development Services Director Christine Zielonka and Planning Director Nana Appiah.

The annexations would result in the collection of any future secondary property tax, construction tax and development fees generated from the land, they said.

Pecos and Ellsworth

An annexation for 337 acres north of Pecos Road and east of Ellsworth Road has been initiated by applicant Dennis Newcomb of Beus, Gilbert, McGroder PLLC, for the owner, Pacific Proving LLC.

There is one undeveloped parcel generally on the south side of the Williams Field Road alignment — between Ellsworth Road and the Crismon Road alignment, as well as the Crismon alignment right-of-way on the eastern side of the property, according to a memo from Ms. Zielonka and Mr. Appiah.

“The annexation ordinance will establish city of Mesa zoning designation of light industrial on the 295.3-acre portion of the site that is currently zoned IND-2 in Maricopa County and city of Mesa zoning designation of agriculture on the remaining 41.7 acres of the site currently zoned RU-43 in Maricopa County,” they said in the memo.

University and Ellsworth

An annexation of 1 acre north of University Drive and west of Ellsworth Road has been initiated by applicant Reese Anderson of Pew and Lake PLC for the owners, Vance and Amanda Williams.

“The applicant is requesting annexation to develop the parcel within the corporate limits of the city of Mesa,” according to a memo to the council from Ms. Zielonka and Mr. Appiah. “Currently, the site is zoned single residence 43 RU-43 in Maricopa County. The annexation ordinance will establish city of Mesa zoning designation of single residence 43 RS-43 on the property.”

Because of the current public health emergency, the City Council Chambers is closed for council meetings. However, the 5:45 p.m. Monday live meeting can be watched on local cable Mesa channel 11; online at youtube.com/user/cityofmesa11/live, or facebook.com/CityofMesa; or listened to by calling 888-788-0099 or 877-853-5247 (toll free) using meeting ID 5301232921 and following the prompts.
