Mesa police said officers dealt with a number of student walkouts and ICE protests Friday, one of which led to the arrest of two Poston Junior High teenagers.
The teens were "witnessed throwing items at officers," police stated in a release.
A girl was arrested and was to be booked into the Durango Juvenile Detention Facility for assaulting an officer, police said, adding she was seen throwing "an item" at the officer.
"This juvenile was not tackled to the ground as some have suggested; however, an officer placed her on the ground to gain control and effect the arrest," the release stated.
The other teen was released and will be referred to the Maricopa County Juvenile Court.
"While we support peaceful protests, we will not tolerate any acts of violence towards officers or our community," the release stated.
