The water district board, comprised of Apache Junction City Council members, voted unanimously on Dec. 16 to approve a $157,052.63 construction agreement with Willmeng Construction Inc. for a block wall at Well No. 8. It is at 2102 S. Coconino Drive.
A more than $157,000 block wall is to be constructed at one of the Apache Junction Water District’s wells to spruce up the property near a new development.
The water district board, comprised of Apache Junction City Council members, voted unanimously on Dec. 16 to approve a $157,052.63 construction agreement with Willmeng Construction Inc. for a block wall at Well No. 8. It is at 2102 S. Coconino Drive.
The district is piggybacking onto a contract trade agreement Willmeng Construction has with the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Department, Water District Director Mike Loggins said prior to the vote.
“Roughly about two years ago we purchased this additional lot to the north of our project here,” he said. “Since then we’ve had a little development happen... We have this nice new apartment complex to the north of this. So try to be stewards of our property and good neighbors, we want to clean up our property and make it look halfway decent rather than an old block wall that has gates that are falling down and chain-link fence.”
Water district
The Apache Junction water district supplies well water (groundwater) pumped from the Eastern Salt River Sub-Basin Aquifer, which flows southwesterly under Apache Junction and its surrounding areas. The groundwater is treated for arsenic removal where necessary, disinfected with chlorine, pumped into storage tanks and blended with Colorado River (surface) water.
The surface water is transported through the Central Arizona Project canal system and filtered and purified at the Superstition Area Water Plant before being introduced into the distribution system.
The water district can also receive treated CAP water from the city of Mesa through an interconnect for a backup supply of water, if needed.
