Former NFL and Arizona State University standout Terrell Suggs has pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge stemming from an incident in which he allegedly threatened to kill someone and pulled out a gun at a Scottsdale Starbucks last March, according Maricopa County Superior Court records, which say the gun was never actually pointed at the victim.
Former NFL, Arizona State University and Hamilton High standout Terrell Suggs has entered a plea agreement in Maricopa County Superior Court in an incident in which he reportedly flashed a gun at a man and threatened to kill him in a Scottsdale Starbucks drive-thru line in 2024.
Suggs pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct and a charge of threatening or intimidating were dismissed.
The plea agreement calls for Suggs to be placed on supervised probation, complete 100 hours of community restitution and complete anger control counseling. It also calls for Suggs to forfeit all guns seized when he was arrested as well as his gun rights while he is on probation.
He is set to be sentenced April 1.
Suggs, 42, played his college career at ASU before going to the National Football League, where he played primarily for the Baltimore Ravens but also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs.
The incident occurred March 10, 2024, when, according to court records, Suggs pulled forward too far to place his order in a local Starbucks drive-thru line. He then backed up his black Range Rover and struck the front end of the vehicle behind him.
The driver of that vehicle got out of the car and approached Suggs, who then got out of his vehicle. The two men argued about the incident but both eventually got back in their vehicles and placed orders, according to court documents.
After receiving his order, Suggs then gave the other driver the finger. The two yelled insults at each other when Suggs allegedly threatened to kill the other driver then stuck a handgun out the window of the Range Rover before driving off, according to police reports. The gun was never actually pointed at the other driver, according to court records.
The other driver reported the incident to the Scottsdale Police.
Scottsdale Police pulled over Suggs on April 9 in the same black Range Rover. A handgun was found in the vehicle at that time, according to reports.
Suggs was ultimately released on bail on several conditions, including he must give up possession of all of his firearms.
Suggs’ representative released a statement to ESPN April 10 saying Suggs had feared for his life during the incident.
“I was in a quiet area of Scottsdale in the middle of the day in a Starbucks drive-thru near my home when an incident happened with a vehicle behind me,” Suggs said in the statement. “I was getting coffee, I was not looking for any trouble. When the man in the other vehicle escalated the situation, I feared for my safety not knowing what his intentions were. Throughout the incident, I was the one who felt in danger, while fearing I would be followed home and for the safety of my family nearby at my residence.”
