BIO
Dr. Reiman is a physician and scientist whose paradigm-changing approaches to research, dementia care and collaboration have had a profound impact on the understanding of the human brain and early detection, study, diagnosis, and potential prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. Before moving to Arizona, he was born in New York, received his undergraduate and medical education and psychiatry and research training at Duke and Washington University, and launched his career in the lab that invented PET. He and his colleagues introduced and used methods that have revolutionized brain imaging and behavioral research, transformed the early detection, study, diagnosis and potential prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, and introduced new models of care and collaboration.
Among his many roles, he is CEO of the Banner Alzheimer’s Institutes, an Alzheimer’s Prevention Initiative leader; a co-founder of ALZpath (maker of a promising Alzheimer’s blood test), and board chair of the Flinn Foundation. He is an author of more than 700 publications, an inventor of several patents, a leader of numerous NIH grants, and a recipient of the Potamkin Prize, considered the Nobel Prize in Alzheimer’s research. He and his colleagues have a realistic chance to find effective Alzheimer’s prevention therapies within the next few years.

The Arizona Historymakers’ program created in 1992 by the Historical League Inc., awards Arizona individuals, who have distinguished themselves with noted achievements and have maintained their ties to Arizona. To date more than 90 Historymakers have been honored over the years at celebration events, and inclusion in the Historymakers Hall exhibit at the Arizona Heritage Center.
Their videos, oral histories and transcripts are uploaded to the League’s website, YouTube, and preserved in the Library and Archives of Arizona Historical Society’s Heritage Center at Papago Park.
The Historymaker Committee is presenting Turquoise & Treasures, a celebration evening Oct. 25 to honor and share how the 2025 Arizona Historymakers have contributed to Arizona and the nation.
