Glendale police receives $500 grant from Walmart

The Glendale police received a $500 grant from Walmart last week to fund the department’s Community Action Team.

Walmart gives to community nonprofits and government agencies through its Community Grant Program. After receiving a grant application from Glendale police, management at the north Glendale Walmart location near Loop 101 and Union Hills Drive recommended Glendale police receive $500 for its Community Action Team. Walmart’s community grants range from $250 to $5,000.

Glendale police’s Community Action Team strives to “utilize the Community Oriented Policing philosophy by providing the necessary tools to eliminate or reduce crime through educational programs and enforcement,” according to the team’s webpage. The Community Action Team uses community partnerships and resources to run educational presentations about how to avoid being a victim of crime, home and business security surveys, Neighborhood Watch programs, drug collection programs and Getting Arizona Involved In Neighborhoods, or G.A.I.N.

Glendale police was awarded $2,000 through Walmart’s Community Grant Program last year and $400 in 2018.
