Velma Teague Library in downtown Glendale will not be open for quite a while, following an electrical fire on the outside of the facility.
Now the cost of those repairs, along with the already budgeted repairs to keep the 55-year-old building in appreciable shape, may accelerate the decision making on the long-term future of the library and its location.
City Manager Patrick Banger said at a Aug. 11 City Council workshop the fire caused some damage. Glendale Field Operations Director Michelle Woytenko said the electrical wiring fire was caused by an arc event where that system has moved and the ground system is compromised. Shocks are a possibility if this electrical system is not replaced.
