The city of Surprise is partnering with Vitalant Blood Donation to host two upcoming blood drives.

The following are the upcoming drive events:

• 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2 at Fire Station 309, 1910 N. Perryville Road.
• 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, July 7 at Rescue Oasis Park, 15831 N. Bullard Ave. (Bloodmobile will be located in the parking lot adjacent to the basketball courts.)

Vitalant recenty announced a severe need for Type-O blood, the universal type used in emergencies.

Unfortunately, blood donations typically decline dramatically during the summer, especially near the Independence Day holiday.

Community members wanting to help can make an appointment through the Vitalant website using Blood Drive Code P1T62, or  call 877-25-VITAL.

Walk-ins are also welcome, but those with an appointment will be given priority.

As an incentive to donate this summer, Vitalant is giving away an exclusive T-shirt and a $20 rewards gift card.

To claim the gifts, use code SUMMER20-2025-V  when scheduling an appointment.

Additionally, those who donated through Sept. 7 will be entered to win a 2025 Volkswagen VW Taos S donated by Valley Volkswagen Dealers.

As a local nonprofit, Vitalant's donations stay in the community.

On average, Vitalant needs more than 600 blood donors every day to ensure patients receive lifesaving blood transfusions.
