Scottsdale couple launches pickleball documentary

Follow the first season of the Arizona Pickleball League

Pickleball can be quirky, and Ashley Leroux and Patrick Sullivan, Jr.,  lean into that side of the sport in their new documentary series, “Breaking Pickleball.”

The couple picked up pickleball in 2018 and saw it grow exponentially during the pandemic. They opened The Orchard at Jigsaw Health in 2022, founded the Arizona Pickleball League and held their first professional season in the spring of 2023.

They were inspired to film their efforts by sports documentaries like “Welcome to Wrexham,” “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” and “The Last Dance.” The Arizona Pickleball League is different from most professional leagues, pickleball or otherwise, as the teams use rubber chickens instead of challenge flags.
