Labor leaders for the public safety associations in Gilbert made their case Tuesday to town council to implement “meet and confer” to negotiate wages, benefits and conditions of work.
Council members mostly did not tip their hands as to which way they were leaning on the issue, asking only at the study session Sept. 10 that staff schedule a second session to answer a multitude of questions raised as the session became pressed for time. The discussion delayed the start of council’s regular meeting.
“I see this as an introduction to this topic,” Councilmember Kathy Tilque said. “I have about two pages of questions that weren't answered, and so I'm not ready to take any action as far as direction or anything on this topic.”
