A Tempe High School student was arrested Oct. 17 after a .22-caliber revolver with three rounds was found in a backpack, police said.

Two boys were contacted by school security and brought to speak with school administrators, authorities said.

The students’ backpacks were searched for possible illegal drugs, according to police, who said a vape pen and the gun were found.

A Tempe Police Department school resource officer responded to assist, and one of the two students was arrested for multiple crimes, according to a release.

“School administration also took administrative action in regards to the students,” police said in the release.

“This was an isolated incident, and the safety of the campus was not jeopardized due to the swift actions and collaboration of school security, administration and Tempe police.”
