Higley USD seeks different way to talk cell towers

Board cancels town hall, but still want information to go out to public

The Higley Unified School District will forgo a neighborhood meeting on placing cell towers on school property, but governing board members said Tuesday they want an alternative way to communicate with residents on the issue.

Board members voted 4-1, with Vice President Anna Van Hoek dissenting, to not hold a town-hall-style meeting, as previously discussed, because the contract between Verizon Wireless and the district to put a tower at Sossaman Middle School was canceled.

However, President Michelle Anderson requested a discussion on how else to share information with the public on the topic as a future board topic. Board Member Tiffany Shultz, who made the motion to kill the meeting, said she too supported getting information to the public by an alternative means.
