Higley Unified School District students continued to outperform statewide averages in English and math assessments last spring, even as district officials identified declines in several areas they say require attention.
Among the concerns in the 2025-26 results are declining seventh-grade math and eighth-grade English proficiency, lower ACT college-readiness results in math and science scores that drop as students progress toward high school.
Teaching and Learning Executive Director Marcus Berkshire said the district uses the annual state assessments to identify broad trends but considers classroom assessments more useful for determining what individual students know and where instruction needs to change.
