The Higley Unified School District Governing Board has left its parental involvement policy unchanged after declining to advance proposed additions spelling out how the district would handle parents’ religious objections to instructional materials and activities.
Board Member Anna Van Hoek brought proposed changes to Policy KB, Parental Involvement in Education, to the board Sept. 22, arguing the district should more explicitly tell parents about religious accommodations and establish procedures for handling those requests.
No board member made a motion to adopt the changes, leaving the existing policy in place.
