GPS students lead STEM advocacy across district

Students from across Gilbert Public Schools are taking the lead in promoting science, technology, engineering and math through a districtwide chief science officers program that emphasizes peer leadership and hands-on learning.

Earlier this school year, 58 students from 18 Gilbert schools participated in the Leadership Training Institute as chief science officers, forming the largest single-district delegation of CSOs in the country.

The students, ranging from sixth through 12th grade, spent months working with educators and industry professionals to develop campus-based action plans aimed at expanding access to and interest in STEM.
