Gilbert’s Public Works Department is testing valves as part of a water system project.
This capital improvement project — known in town documents as WA1614, Transmission Main Assessment Phase 3 — focuses on improving large water pipes, called transmission mains, that deliver water to a significant portion of Gilbert customers. This includes assessment of the transmission mains and repair of discovered defective areas, as well as replacing key parts like system valves, air release valves and ensuring the pipes are protected from corrosion.
The project is in the design phase, and testing of valves along Higley Road from Guadalupe Road to Ocotillo Road will take place in February and continue through March 2025.

While the testing won’t interrupt customers' water service, it may temporarily reroute water through other pipes causing the tap water to look cloudy or discolored for a short time.
Schedule & Impacted Areas:
• Feb. 3-7: North to South (Elliot to Frye) East to West (Recker to Val Vista);
• Feb. 18-21: North to South (Baseline to Ray) East to West (Recker to Val Vista);
• March 3-7: North to South (Pecos to Chandler Heights) East to West (Recker to Val Vista);
• March 17-21: North to South (Ray to Ocotillo) East to West (Recker to Val Vista).
Customers will get a notice two to three days before testing begins through Gilbert 311, and it will be posted on Nextdoor.
Discolored or brown water is temporary and should clear up after a couple of hours. If it doesn’t, customers are asked to call the town at 480-503-6400 or submit a request through Gilbert 311 using the “Water - Quality Brown Water“ category and the town's team will follow up to ensure the issue is resolved.
