The Town of Gilbert has relaunched its high consumption notification program and reactivated continuous water-use alerts as part of broader efforts to promote water conservation and help residents identify potential water waste.
The high consumption notification program identifies customer accounts with unusually high water usage. Customers will receive email notifications when water use increases significantly from the previous month, allowing them to investigate possible leaks or other causes of increased consumption.
Gilbert also has resumed continuous consumption alerts. Under the program, the town will contact customers whose water use remains at or above 20 gallons per hour for 36 consecutive hours. The notifications are intended to help customers determine whether the water use is expected or may indicate a problem.
According to the town, higher water consumption can result from changes in household occupancy, filling a swimming pool, seasonal irrigation adjustments, running toilets or undetected leaks.
To help residents address potential issues, Gilbert offers resources on reading water meters and checking pools, irrigation systems and household fixtures for leaks. The town also provides free water-efficiency checkups designed to help residents identify leaks, improve irrigation efficiency and reduce water waste.
Gilbert continues to offer water conservation rebate programs for qualifying residential and commercial customers. Available incentives include rebates for grass removal, low-water-use landscaping and irrigation-efficiency upgrades such as smart irrigation controllers.
Town officials said the conservation efforts come as Arizona communities continue to face challenges related to declining Colorado River supplies. Gilbert is preparing for a projected reduction in Colorado River water deliveries while continuing to coordinate with regional water agencies and conservation partners.
Residents can find additional information about water conservation programs, rebates and efficiency resources through the town's water conservation services.
