Gilbert Public Schools deploys early literacy coaches to strengthen K-3 reading

Gilbert Public Schools is deploying three early literacy coaches to help elementary teachers strengthen reading instruction and return student performance to or above pre-pandemic levels.

The coaches will work with teams at three schools during an initial six- to eight-week cycle before moving to other campuses. They will model lessons, co-teach, help teachers plan instruction and facilitate professional learning communities.

Their primary focus will be core, or Tier 1, literacy instruction in kindergarten through third grade, when students are developing the skills they will need to access material throughout their education.
