Gilbert Public Schools’ Governing Board delayed a decision on academic calendars for the 2027-28, 2028-29 and 2029-30 school years April 28 to consider whether taking Thanksgiving week off rather than two full weeks in October would be advantageous.
With the board poised to approve three years of calendars with the two-week fall break, Board Member Shana Murray asked the district to consider splitting fall break between a week in October and Thanksgiving week.
The proposed calendars presented to the board continued the district’s current “2-2-2” structure — two weeks for fall break, two weeks for winter break and two weeks for spring break — which Superintendent Shane McCord said was strongly favored by families and staff through district surveys and community feedback.
