Gilbert offers recycling tips for Halloween

Posted

Every Halloween, things get a little scary for Gilbert's Solid Waste and Recycling team.

The town is asking residents to remember these tips:

  • Cobwebs cause maintenance issues for garbage trucks. When taking down decorations, tie those up before placing in a black bin.

  • Instead of buying new, repurpose items already on hand, borrow from friends, or find one at a thrift store.

  • Candy wrappers cannot be recycled. Toss them into a black trash bin instead.

  • Pumpkins in landfills generate toxic methane. Instead of throwing them away, compost them, donate them to local animal sanctuaries, or turn them into dishes like pie, soup or bread.

  • Plastic candy buckets cannot go in the blue bin. Consider reusing cloth bags, pillowcases, or metal buckets for trick-or-treating fun.

Not sure if an item belongs in the trash or recycling bin? Residents can use the town's Waste Wizard at gilbertaz.gov/Recycle.
