Gilbert, Goodwill team up on monitored donation containers

Posted

The town of Gilbert has partnered with Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona to host Arizona’s first-ever monitored donation containers.

The initiative aims to encourage residents to donate gently used items and promote recycling and waste reduction to help protect the environment.

Gilbert is the first municipality in the state to collaborate with Goodwill to host two solar-powered, virtually monitored donation containers.

Provided and maintained at no cost to the town, the bins feature 24/7 surveillance and donor safety lighting, designed to streamline the donation process while reducing landfill waste.

Residents are encouraged to donate items such as:

  • Home decor and housewares;

  • Clothing;

  • Shoes;

  • Electronics;

  • Towels;

  • Toys.

Located at Discovery Park, 2214 E. Pecos Road, Gilbert, and Cactus Yards, 4536 E. Elliot Road, Gilbert, the two 20-foot containers offer round-the-clock access.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for our community members to actively serve one another,"Mayor Scott Anderson said in a release. "Gilbert is always seeking partnerships to enhance our ability to serve sustainably, and we are very welcoming to something like this."

Each container features three chutes and staff is alerted when the bin is full using technology inside the bin, ensuring continuous service and maximizing the reuse of resources.
