The town of Gilbert has been recognized by the Arizona Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America as its 2026 Municipality of the Year for the town’s glass recycling program.
The award honors municipalities with solid waste programs that demonstrate innovation, education and long-term planning. Gilbert’s program was recognized for its contributions to waste diversion, recycling efforts, cost efficiency and rate stabilization.
Launched as a pilot program in 2024, the initiative has since recycled more than 545 tons of glass. The program provides residents with multiple drop-off locations throughout the community, making glass recycling more accessible.
