Stay safe

  • Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, even when you are not thirsty.

  • Limit outdoor activity during the day, take an early morning or late evening walk.

  • Apply SPF of 30 or higher, at least 30 minutes before going out and reapply every two hours.

  • Remember to check your backseat for children and pets. Never leave anyone in a parked car, even with the windows down.

  • Dress for the weather: sunglasses, hat, lightweight and light-colored clothes.

  • Hike during the cooler times and stay hydrated prior to hiking.

  • Check on friends, neighbors, older adults, children, and pets.

Signs of heat-related illnesses

Extreme heat can cause individuals to be at risk of suffering heat-related illnesses. Heat-related illnesses occur when the body is unable to cool itself properly. Look out for symptoms and seek help or call 911 if you experience any of the following:

  • Heat Stroke: Extremely high body temperature (above 103°F) that may cause confusion, dizziness, nausea, a rapid and strong pulse, throbbing headache, red, hot, and dry skin.

  • Heat Exhaustion: May experience heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache, vomiting, or fainting.
