Gilbert Fire & Rescue will host its 22nd annual Back-to-School Shopping event Saturday, Aug. 8, partnering with 80 students from Gilbert Public Schools at Kohl's in Gilbert.

The event begins at 8 a.m. and pairs each student with a firefighter or town staff member who will assist with selecting clothing and shoes for the upcoming school year. Organizers said each student will receive a $250 gift card funded through community donations and sponsorships.

Students also will receive new backpacks filled with school supplies.

The annual event is designed to help families with the costs associated with preparing for the school year while providing an opportunity for students to interact with firefighters and town employees.

Support for this year's event comes from the Valley Toyota Dealers Association, SRP Santan Generating Station, American Legion Gilbert, East Valley Firefighter Charities and Kohl's.
