Gilbert Public Schools is increasing efforts to help students plan for college, careers and other post-graduation paths through a range of programs and resources offered at its high schools.

District officials said the goal is to ensure students graduate with the skills and qualifications needed to succeed, whether they choose higher education, trade school, military service or enter the workforce.

One tool, GradTracker, provides real-time academic checks through Infinite Campus, the district's student information system.

The system replaces manual paper checks and shows students what courses they need to graduate on time. It also tracks grade-point averages, class rank and state exams, giving counselors data to guide students toward their goals.

“We want every student to be prepared for what comes after graduation — no matter what they choose to do,” said Renita Miller, the district’s program and workforce development coordinator. “At the end of the day, it’s about how we can best serve our students so they can succeed both while they’re in school and when they graduate.”

The district also hosts an annual College and Career Fair, which brings colleges, universities and employers together for students to explore options.

FAFSA nights are held throughout the year to assist families with financial aid applications. '

Other initiatives include field trips, classroom visits from industry professionals and dual enrollment opportunities for students to earn college credit.

Staff members work closely with students to identify colleges, careers and pathways that align with their interests and goals.

“We have a database that tracks students’ interests, whether it’s a local college, an out-of-state university, the military, or something else,” said Barb Dwyer, college and career liaison at Highland High. “That helps us connect them with opportunities that really matter to them.”

Scholarships are another focus, with counselors guiding students through databases and application processes. High school staff also provide structured guidance on managing deadlines, completing applications and understanding financial aid.

College and career liaisons support students in completing the FAFSA, which is required for most scholarships.

High schools collaborate to share best practices, and district-level programs connect students with community partners for mentorships, job shadowing and career panels.

“It’s really a collective effort between the student, teachers, counselors, administrators and support staff, all helping the student find their path and supporting them every step of the way,” Miller said.

The district also offers Thrive, an online resource that provides grade-level steps for college and career preparation.

The site includes scholarship databases, event calendars, volunteer opportunities and information on financial aid and college applications. Counselors and career experts update the content regularly.
