Gilbert council hesitant on future bonds amid progress concerns

Members of the Gilbert Town Council expressed hesitation about bringing a new transportation bond to voters in 2026, citing concerns about the progress of the current $515 million in bonds approved in 2021.

The discussion, which took place during the town’s annual financial retreat Feb. 27, highlighted the challenges of executing large-scale infrastructure projects and the potential need for additional funding in the coming years.

Town Engineer Susanna Struble provided an update on the 2021 transportation bond, explaining that while significant progress has been made, there have been delays in project execution. That raised concerns among council members.
