Gilbert Pubic Schools Governing Board celebrated district music programs that earned Program of Distinction awards from the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association
Five Gilbert Public Schools music programs were recognized by the district's governing board Sept. 29 after earning Program of Distinction awards from the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association.
The honored programs were Highland High School's orchestra and band programs, Campo Verde High School's orchestra program, Highland Junior High School's music program and South Valley Junior High School's music program.
The Program of Distinction award recognizes schools whose students achieve high marks at regional and state festivals, participate in solo and ensemble events, and qualify for regional and all-state honor groups.
High school programs are evaluated across multiple music disciplines, including concert ensembles, jazz programs and marching bands.
According to the district, eight Program of Distinction awards were presented statewide this year, with five going to Gilbert Public Schools programs.
The recognition reflects collaboration among music educators across grade levels to help students develop skills and transition successfully from elementary music programs through junior high and high school ensembles.
