Arizona voters appear to reject Proposition 320, a measure that would require certain Arizona school districts to spend at least 60% of their operating budgets on classroom instruction, according to early election results Tuesday night.
The measure had received 1,040,978 votes against, or 51.4%, compared with 984,961 votes in favor, or 48.6%.
Proposition 320 would establish a minimum classroom spending requirement for school districts with more than 7,500 students or those located in counties with populations exceeding 500,000. Districts failing to meet the threshold would face escalating reductions in Classroom Site Fund distributions for consecutive years of noncompliance.
