Problem-plagued FAFSA update rollout has put some behind on college plans

The rollout of the federal government’s revamped Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA, was delayed for months. This left students and their parents unsure of many aspects of college — especially how much financial aid students will be offered for the 2024-25 school year.

The FAFSA application for the upcoming school year didn’t go live until Dec. 30, 2023. Due to technical issues, students and parents struggled to complete or even start the online form.

Also, the U.S. Department of Education said in a news release that schools and state agencies didn’t start receiving needed information on student applications until at least the first half of March.
