Chandler 'Water Safety Walk' set for Saturday

Posted

Chandler firefighters and Chandler Aquatics are constantly generating reminders and checklists that promote water safety.

This Saturday, both are asking residents and groups to join them in the Water Safety Walk — a door-to-door campaign through local neighborhoods to help prevent water-related tragedies in the community.

The entire community is invited to assist in this effort, including scouting groups, religious congregations, businesses, service clubs, swim teams and other organizations.

Volunteers will gather at Centennial Park, 2475 E. Markwood Drive, the morning of May 3. Chandler Fire Department staff will assign small groups of volunteers to a specific Chandler neighborhood and provide instructions, maps and door hangers with water safety information.

Participants will then walk their assigned route and leave a door hanger at every home. Each route will take two to three hours to complete. Volunteers must provide their own transportation to the assigned neighborhood, and they are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and bring drinking water.

Children and youth under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult or be part of a supervised group.

This will be the 16th annual  Water Walk. The goal of the #WaterYouDoing campaign is to educate residents about the importance of water safety for both children and adults, with the ABCs of Water Safety: adult supervision, barriers and swim classes.

Continue the water safety experience Saturday evening at the Water You Doing Day event at Hamilton Aquatic Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
