Chandler Police seek help with fatal Oct. 31 hit-and-run

Posted
Detectives with the Chandler Police Department are looking for information on what led to a fatal collision between an unknown vehicle and a man leaving a Halloween party, according to a news release.

Police were called to reports of a man down in the roadway near the intersection of S. Gilbert Road and E. Amanda Blvd. at 10:24 p.m. on Oct. 31.

When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as 27-year-old Cajuan Harris, laying in the road with serious injuries. Several other people and witnesses were at the scene offering information about what they saw.

Life-saving measures were performed on Harris at the scene before he was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

An initial investigation revealed Harris had recently left a Halloween party and told friends he was taking a walk to get some air. A short time later, Harris was struck by at least one vehicle, before a passerby stopped, and attempted to prevent additional collisions by waving at oncoming traffic from the median.

According to interviews, Harris may have been struck by other vehicles who did not remain at the scene.

An additional involved driver did remain at the scene to speak with investigators. The driver did not show signs of impairment and is cooperating with investigators.

Police are seeking information about any vehicles and drivers who potentially collided with Harris.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Chandler Police detective Mike Whipple at 480-782-4943.
