April 7-13 will be National Library Week.

The week was first sponsored in 1958 by the American Library Association and observed in libraries across the U.S. each April.

All types of libraries —school, public, academic and specialty — tend to participate.

That’s why Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke and Vice Mayor O.D. Harris honored the week with a proclamation at a March 18 meeting, emphasizing the importance of libraries and librarians.

The mayor and vice mayor were joined by Tara Anglin, Susan Van Horne, and Rachelle Kuzyk of the Chandler Public Library.
