On June 26, the Chandler Compadres presented local nonprofits serving East Valley kids and families with giant checks totaling $2.7 million, making it what a news release described as the largest distribution in the organization’s 45-year history.

The giant symbolic checks were presented at SoHo63 in downtown Chandler on what was termed “Give Day” and marked a record-breaking fundraising year for the Compadres, the release states.

The $2.7 million in donations gos out to several organizations. Most notable in Chandler are Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley, which received $1.2 million, along with a $670,000 donation to ICAN, the Chandler organization that runs afterschool programs for children.

Mayor Kevin Hartke, whose city government independently supports the Boys & Girls Clubs’ Chandler location and ICAN in various ways, was among those who attended the check presentation.

The Compadres raise charitable dollars that go directly to nonprofit organizations focusing on improving the lives of youth and families in Arizona.

The non-profit, founded in 1980, is dedicated to building stronger family and youth resources, the release states.
