DRIVE-THRU COFFEE

Zoning Board votes to approve new drive-through coffee shop and car repair shop for Mesa

Posted

A new coffee shop and a new minor automobile repair shop are coming to Mesa.

The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board voted 6-0, with Boardmember Genessee Montes absent, to approve a site plan that will pave the way for the construction of the two businesses south of Ray Road and east of Power Road during its March 13 meeting.

The coffee shop will be 2,400 square feet, and the minor automobile repair shop will be 4,900 square feet. The request is being made by urban design firm ScapeGOAT Design Studio.

This development could have been approved via a public hearing but had to be referred to the Planning and Zoning Board due to a single comment opposing the project from an adjacent property.

According to visualization images in the council presentation, the coffee shop would be a Starbucks location. The concern raised by the property owner was that a number of similar businesses already were in the nearby area.

There was also a single comment in support of the location. It is unknown when the businesses would open nor how long construction would take. The property’s address will be 5499 S. Power Road.
