A Whataburger restaurant with a drive-thru is to be constructed north of Broadway Road on the east side of Power Road in Mesa.

The 1-acre development’s look and landscaping were discussed March 12 by the Mesa Design Review Board. Chair Scott Thomas was absent.

The site was previously developed as a bank with a drive-thru ATM, Staff Planner Sean Pesek said during the meeting.

“So Whataburger is proposing to raze and rebuild up the site to construct a Whataburger restaurant approximately 2,800 square feet in size with a drive-thru lane along the east side of the building, so the drive-thru lane is perpendicular with Broadway Road,” he said.

David Cox is the applicant. WNDG LLC is the owner.

The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
