The Mesa Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities and Energy Resources Department will see a $110,000 increase in the annual dollar limit of its tree pruning and removing contract, thanks to the Mesa City Council.
By a 6-0 vote at their April 15 meeting — Councilmember Scott Somers was absent — the Mesa Council improved the increase, which takes the contract from $1,057,000 to $1,167,000 annually. While mainly intended to allow for the department to efficiently prune and remove trees, the money can also be used for various other necessary services.
“This contract provides tree pruning, removal and other related services, including emergency services for the Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities Department, including aquatics, parks and sports fields maintenance, facilities maintenance, cemetery, and the golf course, on an as-needed basis,” the staff report said. “The contractor may also perform safety-sensitive responsibilities including emergency tree work related to storm drains and citizen complaints.”
The contract’s term is set to last three years and expires on Jan. 31, 2027.
