Two Republicans vying to be Biggs' successor in CD5

Posted

Two candidates are vying to be the Republican nominee to replace Andy Biggs in the U.S. House of Representatives for Congressional District 5.

Former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb will square off against political newcomer Daniel Keenan for the nomination with both expressing strong support for President Donald Trump.

The seat is open as Biggs, who is serving his fifth term as one of the most conservative members of Congress, is giving it up to run for governor of Arizona.

Congressional District 5 includes the towns of Gilbert, San Tan Valley and Queen Creek and the Sun Lakes area, along with the southern and eastern parts of Chandler and eastern Mesa, laying in both Maricopa and Pinal counties.

Mark Lamb

Lamb served as Pinal County sheriff from 2017 to 2024. He carried a high profile during that time, frequently appearing on the TV series “Live PD,” calling for additional U.S.-Mexican border security and saying he would not enforce stay-at-home orders during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2024, he unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, losing to Kari Lake.

Lamb touts cracking down on illegal immigration, violent crime and drug trafficking as his priority in Congress along with protecting people’s constitutional rights. He carries an endorsement from President Donald Trump for the seat.

Daniel Keenan

Keenan is a builder who founded DK Builders, a residential construction company. He has not previously sought office.

Keenan said he will be an ally to Trump in Congress who will carry America First priorities, including securing the border, strengthening public safety and growing the economy for working families while defending constitutional freedoms.

The winner of the primary, which will be held July 21, will face off against the Democratic winner among Blake Bracht, Brian Hualde, Chris James and Elizabeth Lee.

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
