BUCKEYE — A pair of sophomores led the way offensively as the Desert Edge Scorpions punched their ticket to the 5A championship game with a 27-14 victory over their Desert West Region rival Verrado Vipers in a semifinal playoff game on Nov. 29.
Sophomore quarterback Blake Roskopf found sophomore wideout Zerek Sidney three times in the game — from 10 yards, 30 yards and 5 yards respectively — as the Scorpions avenged a regular season loss to the Vipers on the same Buckeye field three weeks earlier.
“Those guys have a really great connection and they’re getting to the point where it seems like they know what each other is thinking. They’re both sophomores so there’s going to be a lot of touchdowns from them in the future,” Desert Edge Coach Henri MacArthur said.
