Soroptimist International of the East Valley celebrating 50 years

Posted

Soroptimist International of the East Valley marks more than 50 years in operation with festivities 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce, 567 W. Apache Trail in Apache Junction.

Soroptimist International of the East Valley, which used to be known as Soroptimist International of Apache Junction, has been serving the community since 1971 and would like all to attend the momentous event to mark the occasion, according to a release.

“There will be several speakers to reminisce of events from the past and plans for the future. Come and learn about this dynamic organization and meet our current members. Lunch will be served,” the release states. “Loosely translated, Soroptimist means ‘best for women.’ That’s what we aim to be: women (and men) at our best, helping other women to be their best.”

Soroptimist International of Apache Junction was formed in 1971 and has served area women and girls with community outreach and its dream programs: Live Your Dream Awards and Dream It Be It Career Planning for Girls.

In early 2017, the name was changed to better reflect its membership and the larger community in which they live, work, play and serve.

Soroptimist International of the East Valley serves the cities and areas of Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Florence, Mesa, Tempe and Queen Creek.

At its core, Soroptimist of the East Valley is a service organization.
