Sasha Nicholson, a Peralta Trail Elementary School educator in the Apache Junction Unified School District, was recently named the American Legion teacher of the year and honored at a reception along with members of the police department and fire district.

Among the criteria for the selection was a collection of Nicholson’s teaching experiences as well as letters of recommendation from principals, district leaders, students and parents, according to a release.

AJUSD Superintendent Robert Pappalardo commends Sasha’s outstanding contributions.

“When we were asked to nominate a staff member for teacher of the year, we tried to think of the qualities of not only a teacher but a true educator. An educator is someone who goes above and beyond to take learning to the next level for their students and their personal growth. Sasha Nicholson is so deserving of this teacher of the year award,” Pappalardo said in the release.

Peralta Trail Principal Pat Smith echoed Dr. Pappalardo’s praise.

“Sasha Nicholson’s dedication extends beyond the classroom, as she actively participates in school events and supports her students’ extracurricular activities. Her tireless efforts and commitment to educational excellence make a significant positive impact on the lives of her students and the entire AJUSD community,” Smith said in the release.
