Posted

Arizona State Rep. Walter Blackman visited Peralta Trail Elementary and Cactus Canyon Junior High schools Oct. 22 to learn about the new GenTech STEM programs launched recently at Apache Junction Unified School District.

Blackman, R-District 6, a strong advocate for educational innovation, spent time touring classrooms and engaging with students, accompanied by AJUSD Superintendent Dr. Robert Pappalardo, according to a release.

AJUSD’s GenTech program, which began this school year, provides students with hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The program emphasizes real-world problem-solving, collaboration and critical thinking, equipping students with the skills needed for future careers in technology-driven fields.

“It was great to have Rep. Blackman see what our students are working on. He was genuinely engaged and impressed by the level of creativity and problem-solving the students demonstrated. His support means a lot, especially as we push to make STEM learning a bigger part of our curriculum,” Pappalardo said in the release.

Rep. Blackman, who has served in the Arizona State House of Representatives since 2018, is recognized for his efforts to advance education, particularly in underserved communities. His visit highlights his dedication to expanding access to STEM programs that prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow, the release states.

The GenTech initiative represents AJUSD’s dedication to creating future-ready students by fostering innovation, critical thinking and teamwork. With programs like GenTech, AJUSD is positioning itself as a leader in STEM education across the state, according to the release.

AJUSD has three elementary schools, a junior high school and a high school. The district is from Meridian Road on the west to the town of Queen Valley on the east and from the Goldfield Mountains to the north, south into the San Tan Corridor. Communities served include Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Peralta Trail, Queen Valley and unincorporated Pinal County land in-between.
