Averzion: Valley duo brings one-of-a-kind scorpion barrier to market
Proponents of product guarantee 100% protection

A Repellant Free of Harmful Pesticide
We don’t want people to have to spread and respray pesticides. When Averzion is sprayed, the barrier is much more effective than any pesticide. There is no coatings like this on the market.”
“The product is what we call a physical pest barrier in the world of pest control, and they call it integrated pest management,” said Tony Gonzales, co-owner of a newly patented formula at market today. “Essentially what it is, is a way to eradicate or keep insects or pests out of any kind of structure — and doing it without pesticides.”
Averzion creates an impenetrable barrier formula for Valley homeowners looking to keep the predatory arachnids away from loved ones, proponents say.
“We, my partner and I, invented a clear coating that we apply to the base of homes,” Gonzales explained. “Typically, scorpions and other predatory insects cannot climb glass. They don’t dig and come up through the ground, they are expert climbers. With our product, as long as it maintains its glass-like texture, these pests cannot climb up. That is essentially what we invented.”
Gonzales tells a story of invention born through necessity as he and his business partner, both New Mexico transplants, first moved to the Valley several years ago, one of them was dealing with a scorpion infestation.
“My business partner, Aaron Gonzales, who I grew up with. We both moved out here and he was just infested with scorpions, so he sealed his home but it didn’t work,” he explained. “He caught so many and would place them in glass jars when he would initially catch them. He noticed they were really struggling to climb the glass barriers of the jars.”
Gonzales also points out a terrifying experience he had with his young son, Jackson, where he was stung by a scorpion. His reaction was frightening leading to medical care.
"He came up with the idea, my partner, and I am an attorney so I helped with initial paperwork and acquiring the patent for the formula, but I was more of a partner like that,” he said. “But then my son, Jackson, was stung and it was just brutal ... just 10 hours of pure hell.”
Gonzales recalls a moment following Jackson’s recovery when he called his partner, Aaron, to let him know, “I am in 100%”
A looking glass of sorts
Averzion is a clear-coat formula to stop scorpions from entering any structure, is now available at all five Phoenix-area Bug & Weed Mart locations, making the product available for the first time to homeowners for do-it-yourself application.
“Our service company, a pest control company here in the Valley, they are our proof of concept. As long as the product is applied properly, it is 100% effective,” Gonzales points out. “We aren’t at Home Depot or Lowe’s yet but we are at Ace Hardware and The Bug & Weed Mart. Our products has been tested by Texas A&M, which in the field is one of the most coveted evaluating agencies.”
Furthermore, Gonzales offers the product is safer than any pesticide that could be placed in or around a home or commercial structure.
“We don’t want people to have to spread and respray pesticides,” he said. “When Averzion is sprayed, the barrier is much more effective than any pesticide. There is no coatings like this on the market."
Joe LaBrie, director of store operations at the Bug & Weed Mart, ehoes a similar sentiment.
“For more than 40 years Bug & Weed Mart has offered professional-grade products to customers committed to DIY pest control and scorpions continue to be a top concern for Arizonans,” he said.
“We are excited to work with Averzion as a retail partner, as their product is taking prevention to the next level, giving homeowners the ultimate scorpion perimeter protection treatment!”
Averzion has also recently been proven effective against cockroaches and other crawling insects.
